Abbey & Matt are getting married!

I know, I know, this is kind of ridiculous, but after spending only a few hours with them, I love everything about Abbey and Matt. It took just a few minutes to be able to tell that they just absolutely love spending time with each together, and their happiness is infectious!

Matt grew up in Twin Falls, eventually moving to NYC for work, where he met Abbey, “We were both working at a video editing company in New York City and from the minute we met, we sort of became inseparable. Going to the movies, seeing live music, laughing our butts off, having honest conversations and talking until the wee hours of the night- I think we both knew from early on that we had found our person.”

They come to Sun Valley often and love to ski, so we chose Baldy as the location for their engagement session. In the year between when a couple books us and when their wedding happens, it’s super important to us to really get to know them. Engagement sessions are part of that process, and so is just hearing about who they are in their own words. Here is what Abbey and Matt said about them as a couple, “We both love to have fun and are unabashedly affectionate! We love to ski, dog-sit for our friends, cook up meals in our apartment (we love Spa night, which is short for Spaghetti!), watch movies (lots of movies!), see live music, travel and explore places we’ve never been, visit art galleries and get our culture on, go for coffee strolls, play the NY Times crossword, and go on adventures!”

…and here’s the sweet story of how they got engaged, “It was a freezing cold Saturday morning in New York. One of those beautiful winter days where the sun is shining but you can see your breath in the air. It was the morning after Abbey had a performance with her band (she is a singer-songwriter) and we set out through the village to get some much needed bagels with lox (a staple!) and coffee. With bellies full, Matt led Abbey into Washington Square Park where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry  him.”

Given how much fun I had doing their engagement session, I can truly say that I can’t wait for their wedding this summer at Galena!

Happy (almost!) Anniversary Lilly & Stefan!

Lilly and Stefan had the sweetest, most intimate ceremony. They went back and forth for a long time, debating the pros and cons of having a big wedding or a small one, and ultimately decided that what was most important to them was to be surrounded by their nearest and dearest family and friends as they said their vows. And so, on a beautiful snowy day, they gathered all of the most important people in their lives together, went down by the river and vowed to be together forever. Not an eye was dry (including mine!).

I was very lucky to have Lilly as my studio manager for a year and a half and in that time we became very close. It is wonderful to see her and Stefan so happy together!

Kaitlin & Lauren’s Engagement Images

I loved the engagement session I did with Lauren and Kaitlin a few weeks ago. We had a session with big mountain views planned, but when it started snowing at the last minute, we decided to just go down by the river instead. And although I love mountains, this worked out really well. It’s a good reminder that it’s totally fine to keep things simple, to just focus on two people being together, on faces and emotions. Kaitlin and Lauren are so cute together and it’s fun to have images that capture their joy!

When I asked about their dynamic together, they said they were, ‘playfully sarcastic,” which, after spending a couple of hours with them, seems to fit them perfectly. They also describe their relationship as playful, dynamic, active, loving, outdoorsy, passionate and adventurous– they were all of these things together!

They also have the sweetest engagement story: Kaitlin set up a whole weekend on the Oregon coast. Lauren thought it was for a birthday party for her niece. Instead, Kaitlin proposed during sunset on the beach, and then surprised Lauren with her whole family traveling in from the east coast to spend the weekend with them!

The Evans Family goes sledding!

I had so much fun getting to know the Evan’s family, who recently moved to Sun Valley from Seattle. They have the sweetest kids. Now, it’s very important to have pretty portraits of everyone looking their best, but after that’s done, it’s always nice to have a more little fun! For me, these ‘extra’ images often end up being my favorite! Here are a few…

…and of course, a few of the pretty portraits!

LeAnn & Dave’s Sun Valley Winter Wedding

High on the excitement of a beautiful ceremony at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, LeAnn and Dave raised crystal glasses for their first toast as husband and wife at the Knob Hill Inn. As they did, LeAnn shared a sweet story that all started with the glasses in their hands. Backpacking in Prague in the early nineties, LeAnn bought the precious Moser crystal glasses, thinking that they would be perfect for her wedding someday. The glasses (after making it home intact), stayed tucked away for more than a decade, until 7 years ago, having been diagnosed with breast cancer and with no wedding on the horizon, LeAnn decided that life was too short, and used one of the glasses for the first time. Now, after surviving a long battle with cancer, LeAnn has finally met her soulmate and got the wedding of her dreams. On a winter night in Sun Valley, all these years later, LeAnn and Dave drank from those glasses, surrounded by their friends and family. I am honored that they choose me to photograph their big day and share in their story.

Congrats you two! Wishing you every happiness in the life you’ll share together!

Sam + Adam, Ketchum Engagement Session

Sam and Adam Engagement_055Had the chance to spend some time with and photograph Sam and Adam’s engagement session over the holidays. They live in NYC, but Adam has been coming to the valley to ski since he was little and they are excited to be planning a wedding at Sun Valley’s Trail Creek Cabin this summer. Can’t wait!

Alexandra & Dan’s Sun Valley Engagement Portraits

Alexandra and Dan Engagement_025

Ok, so I realize that we are all anxious for spring, and it is almost here, but I had so much fun doing Alexandra and Dan’s engagement photos before I left for my trip, that I had to share some of them!
